The Lafayette Color Guard became an integral component of the Lafayette Band program in 1973 by then director J. Larry Moore, when he added a 16 member flag corps and an eight member rifle unit the following year. Currently, approximately 40 students participate in the fall program, emphasizing performance skills in movement and dance, along with the pageantry of flags, rifles, and sabers. The majority of members have studied dance privately for many years, and bring their talents to the Lafayette Color Guard, providing a fantastic visual effect to the annual marching show. The group also participates in an organized Winter Guard program during the school year. The Color Guard is selected by audition each year. The majority of our Color Guard members also participate in the Concert Band program at Lafayette.
