Senior Night on Friday, October 14

The Lafayette Band will recognize the seniors and their families before the football game on Friday, October 14.  The families of senior students received an e-News update this week with additional information about this special event.  If an 11th grade student has selected the “Early Graduation Pathway,” please contact Brenda Boggs (bsbboggs@yahoo.com or 859-806-1967) to be included in this recognition event.

Bingo Volunteers

This is a busy time during the school year and marching season, but Bingo remains our biggest fundraiser!  The marching season is expensive and we need profitable nights at Bingo to cover staff payments, buses, food for students, uniform cleaning, etc.

Our profit each night is from pull tab sales and we need volunteers to sell.  Every family is asked to volunteer for 12 nights at Bingo per year.  Please respond to Casie’s email messages and sign-up on Tuesday or Thursday (6:00pm – 8:00pm or 8:00pm – 10:00pm) and come to the Bingo Hall in Keithshire Shopping Center. You will meet great parents and help support the band!

KMEA Schedule for Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals

This is an exciting time in the marching season as the “Vox Populi” show nears completion and the students prepare for KMEA competition.  Below is some general information for the last 2 weeks of competition.

·         Quarterfinals will be held at Bryan Station High School on Saturday, October 22.  The competition begins at 3:00pm and Lafayette will perform at 3:15pm.  Each band will perform once and the top 8 bands from the east and west regions will advance.

·         Semifinals for 5A will be held at Papa John’s Stadium in Louisville on Saturday, October 29.  The competition begins at approximately 10:00am and Lafayette’s performance time will be announced after quarterfinals.  The top 4 bands from each classification (1A – 5A) will perform in finals competition.

·         Finals competition begins at 6:00pm at Papa John’s Stadium.  The 1A bands perform at 6:00pm, 2A at 7:00pm, etc.  The top 4 bands for 5A will perform beginning at 10:00pm.  The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 11:15pm.

Band Store Update

The band store will be open Monday, October 3 from 5:30-6:30pm in the parking lot.  The trailer will not be there, but show shirts, sweatshirts, Lafayette Invitational patches and buttons, “Vox Populi” patches, pins and buttons, scarves, hats, fleece headbands and other apparel will be available for sale.  Please stop by and pick up your cold weather gear!

Custom orders are in.  If you placed an order, please stop by Monday and pick it up.

Several people have indicated an interest in purchasing “Vox Populi” crewneck and hoodie sweatshirts.  We may be able to place an order but there is a minimum of twelve items.  Please e-mail Stacey Haymes at haymes@twc.com by Wednesday, October 5th if you are interested (even if you have already stopped by the store and indicated an interest).  Please indicate the size and type of sweatshirt (hoodie or crew) and include your contact information.  If the interest is great enough, a second order will be placed.  Each person will be contacted to confirm and payment will need to be received beforehand.

Parents and Students — Carefully review these instructions:

  • Bring money for gloves if needed – $6.00
  • Have your band camp shirt to wear under your uniform.
  • Wear long white socks – plain, no stripes! (It’s good just to keep an extra pair of socks in your bag)
  • Bring white shorts to wear under your uniform.
  • If there is a problem with your uniform, see a member of the uniform team.
  • We always appear in public dressed in full uniform unless Mr. Smith or Mr. Bishop have informed the students otherwise.

Hair should not touch the collar when dressed in uniform, therefore, students with longer hair should bring items to secure their hair in a ponytail or purchase a wig cap.  Wig caps can be purchased from the Uniform Team for $1 for a package of 2 caps.

Have class – YOU are the “PRIDE OF THE BLUEGRASS”®! Always support other performing groups! Refuse to say anything negative, no matter what might be said to you.

Family Payments Agreements

Family payments for 2016-2017 are $1,100 and should have been completed by August 15 but were extended to August 31 due to transitional issues with the Charms database.  However, if the payment was not completed by August 31, an additional late payment of $150 for the “deferred payment schedule” was added per the payment agreement.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Smith at chuck.smith@fayette.kyschools.us or 859-396-3311 for a confidential payment arrangement.

Please continue to be financially responsible and complete your family payments in a timely manner.  This is the most expensive time of the marching season and we need to provide payments for meals, show design, transportation, and musical instruction.  Our instructors would appreciate receiving payment for their hard work and dedication to our students.

Charms Database

The Lafayette Band uses Charms, a web-based organizational software system to track student contact information, financial statements, email communication, and more.

To log into Charms, go to www.charmsoffice.com.  Click “Enter” on the top menu and click “Parents/Students/Members” on the dropdown list.  Login using the school code “lhsband” and enter your student ID/password.  If you need your student ID, please contact Liz Booth at lafayettebandaccounts@gmail.com. The student ID is assigned by Charms and is a combination of letters and numbers.

If your student has an outstanding balance, you will receive a monthly financial statement.  The monthly payments will be billed individually in the Fixed Payment ledger.  Amounts received that are less than the billed fixed payment amount will be temporarily stored in the Miscellaneous ledger.  When the amount in the Miscellaneous ledger is sufficient to pay a monthly payments, we can transfer the amount to the appropriate fixed payment.

Band payments may be paid by cash, check, credit card or money order.  Checks and money orders should be made payable to “LBA” (please note the student’s name) and mail to:

Lafayette Band Association
PO Box 910396
Lexington, KY 40591-0396

“Remind” System to Communicate Information

The Lafayette Band uses the “Remind” system to communicate important information to students and families.  The students have been encouraged to join the appropriate “remind” groups to receive updates, schedule changes, and reminders from the band directors.  Families are welcome to join.
