Food and Travel

A BIG Thank You To All Who Helped with Band Camp and Parent Performance Meals

A big thank you goes out to all of the parents and families who donated their time and talents for serving meals during band camp and the parent performance.   A special thank you to Jane and Jim DeRossett and Stacey Stone for organizing the band camp meals and overseeing the food crew for the entire camp.

Lafayette Band Invitational – Donations Needed

We will be operating a concessions stand and selling soft drinks in the stands during the Lafayette Band Invitational on September 17.  We are asking each family to donate a 24-case of canned Pepsi Products (yes – it must be a Pepsi product).  Due to limited storage space at school, please deliver your soda cans to the Bingo Hall on a Tuesday or Thursday evening between 5:00pm – 9:30pm.

This is a good time to purchase the canned soda with back-to-school sales and discounts.

Lafayette Band Invitational – Spotlight Ads

The Lafayette Band will be hosting an Invitational Band Contest on Saturday, September 17.  Eleven local and regional bands will be performing and it will be an incredible event!  Ads are currently being sold for the invitational program, so if you know of or have a business and would like to place an advertisement, please contact Carole Howell for details.

The Invitational Program will include “Spotlight Ads”.  If you have not seen a “Spotlight” form for the Lafayette Band Invitational program, contact Carole Howell or go to the Invitational link on our website. This is an easy way to support, recognize, and encourage your student for all of their hard work! Forms are due by August 20th.

Let’s show everybody how proud we are of our band and students!

Car Pool Opportunity

The Lafayette Band is fortunate to have many students who live out-of-district.  Sometimes transportation can be difficult and time-consuming for these families.  If you live in the Hamburg area and interested in participating in a car pool, please contact Elizabeth Snellings (469-644-9935 or esnellings@aaep.org).

The Field Crew Needs You

The field crew is still a little shorthanded for performance days as this year’s show has more equipment to get on and off the field than in recent years.  If the legendary fun and festivity of tailgating with the field crew on contest days and the awesome food is not enough, helping push equipment gives you a front row (actually in front of the front row) seat for the show.  The crew can use your help even if you have limited availability.  If you are potentially interested in helping, please contact Matt King at matt@bleedsblue.com

Chaperone Crew Update

MEDICAL FORMS
We still have a few students that have not turned in mandatory medical forms. These forms are for your child’s safety and are very important for not only proper medical treatment but so that we can reach you as quickly as possible. You can find the forms at www.lafayetteband.org in the forms section or stop by the blue chaperone building next to the band field and we’ll be glad to provide a form that you can fill out right there.

CONTINUE TO USE WATER JUGS
Students need to continue to bring their water jugs to practice throughout the band season. In the past, the marching band would easily use over 20,000 Styrofoam cups during a typical marching season. Personal water jugs are not only environmentally friendly but they save LBA parents over $600 a season.   Mr. Smith will provide a location for the students without lockers to store their jugs for easy access.

COLOR GUARD PRACTICE CHAPERONES NEEDED
Our goal is to have two chaperones at every band practice. Color Guard parents are needed to help Chaperone the late after school practices. Guard practices late on Monday and Tuesday (5:30-8:30) and Thursday (5:00-8:00).

You must be a FCPS approved volunteer and be a member of the LBA in order to volunteer. If you are interested or want more information, contact Frankie Stivers (frankiestivers@elderlawlexington.com

Uniform News

If anyone has a shoe issue, please contact Amy King by MIDNIGHT, MONDAY AUGUST 8.

Amy, Matt, Evan and Annelise King would like to thank the Lafayette Band family for the outpouring of love and support during their time of loss.  Words cannot express how much every gesture was appreciated.

All Volunteers

Fayette County Public Schools requires a background check for anyone who volunteers in or with the schools.  Please submit to a new background check or verify the date on your current background check by clicking on this link.  Please complete the background check prior to the start of band camp.  This must be completed in order to volunteer in any capacity with the band (e.g., serve meal at band camp, field crew, uniform crew, etc.). Contact Brenda Boggs at bsbboggs@yahoo.com with any questions.

Band Store Apparel

The band store will be open on Monday, August 8 from 5:30pm -7:00pm in the senior parking.  Please stop by and visit the store so that you can stock up on all of your Lafayette band gear!  We have a limited inventory of customized apparel available as well as the usual items such as lanyards, patches, t-shirts, sweatshirts, past show shirts, etc.  We will be taking orders for the customized apparel order so please stop by to drop off your order forms and checks (made out to LBA).

For those of you who placed a customized apparel order in June, your items are in!  All custom orders will be available to pick up in the band store on Monday evening.  If anyone would like to place a second order, I will accept them on Monday evening.

If you have any questions, please contact Stacey Haymes at 859-552-6108 or haymes@twc.com.  Mail your order form and payment (checks payable to LBA) to:

The Lafayette Band
