Lafayette Invitational – THANK YOU!!

THANK YOU to everyone for a wonderful Lafayette Band Invitational!  It was a “Beautiful Day” because of our amazing parents and student volunteers.  Thank you for your time, hard work, hospitality, flexibility and GREAT attitudes even during the rain!!  Thank you for representing our band and school and for being a part of the Lafayette Band Family.

M2 Schedule and Payments

M2 Lessons began two weeks ago.  We have not received the $150 payment from 13 families.  It is imperative that we receive payment so that we may take care of our wonderful, talented instructors.  Thank you for your promptness and attention to this matter.

Notes of Encouragement for State Finals

This optional activity and long standing tradition was started many years ago by a band parent to show the Band and Staff our love and support during this busiest time of the competition season.  This activity is not sanctioned by LBA.  Anyone may choose to participate and write notes of encouragement for a specific section (e.g., trombones, color guard, etc.) to be distributed to students on the bus as they travel to KMEA competition on October 29.  The maximum number of notes assigned will be 10.

Review the sections below and email your choice to Brenda Boggs at bsbboggs@yahoo.com.  You will receive a list of students and a sample note next week.

Notes must be returned no later than Friday, October 22.  Watch e-news for collection dates/times.  Notes can be returned to Karina Lancaster.

Tips for Note Preparation:

§  Short, hand-written, anonymous note of support and encouragement!  Notes are not intended to suggest or emphasize winning.

§  Decorate paper with stickers, use scrapbook paper with music symbols, or whatever you choose.

§  Add your special touch!

Sections:  Baritones, Clarinets, Color Guard, Drum Majors, Flutes, Low Reeds, Mellophones, Percussion, Saxophones, Sousaphones, Staff, Trombones, and Trumpets

Cheese, Sausage and Candles Fundraiser

Thank you to everyone who participated in this fundraiser!

·         Product delivery will be Thursday, October 6th at the end on mini-camp.  Volunteers will be needed that afternoon to help unpack and sort the delivery.

·         Money collection will be the week of October 10-14 (exact dates and times will be posted in e-news).

·         All money must be turned in by Friday, October 14th to be eligible for any prizes.

Remember the “In Lieu Of” payment option of $50.00 is still an option and will be collected through October.

BAND MEMBERS — It is very important to check and double-check the items in your Red Bag prior to every performance! Make certain all required items are present and clean. This is important information to remember prior to every football game and competition!

Parents and Students — Carefully review these instructions:

  • Bring money for gloves if needed – $6.00
  • Clean and polish shoes
  • Have your band camp shirt to wear under your uniform.
  • Wear long white socks – plain, no stripes! (It’s good just to keep an extra pair of socks in your bag)
  • Bring white shorts to wear under your uniform.
  • Wipes & deodorant in your bag.
  • If there is a problem with your uniform, see a member of the uniform team.
  • We always appear in public dressed in full uniform unless Mr. Smith or Mr. Bishop have informed the students otherwise.

Hair should not touch the collar when dressed in uniform, therefore, students with longer hair should bring items to secure their hair in a ponytail or purchase a wig cap.  Wig caps can be purchased from the Uniform Team for $1 for a package of 2 caps.

Have class – YOU are the “PRIDE OF THE BLUEGRASS”!  Always support other performing groups! Refuse to say anything negative, no matter what might be said to you.

Medications for the Ryle Contest

If your child needs to take prescription or over-the-counter medication during the day on Saturday and we do not have a physician’s signature on file, you will need to complete and return the “2016 Medical Prescription Form” found under the FORMS link on the Lafayette Website (www.lafayetteband.org).

Return the completed form and the medication needed for that day only in its original container to any chaperone at the blue building next to the practice field. We will take medications for the Ryle contest on:

Friday: 5:00pm -6:00pm (before the football game)
Saturday: 7:00am – 8:00am

Please note that over-the-counter medications must be accompanied by a physician’s signature on the FCPS form noted above.  If a physician has already signed the LBA Medical Form then you are not required to submit an additional form for the OTC medications included and initialed.

If you have any questions you may contact Mike Booth (mikeboothgm@gmail.com).

Food for Bourbon County Contest

Cookies
The band loves cookies, brownies, and rice crispy treats on contest days.  If you can bake (or buy) 2 or 3 dozen cookies, deliver to Stacy Stone (a.k.a. ‘The Cookie Lady’) on Saturday morning as you drop off your student.  Due to allergies, please no peanut butter, nuts or sesame seeds.

Meals
Make sure students eat breakfast before practice begins at 7:00am on Saturday morning.  We will be serving brunch, dinner, and a snack. We will have a vegetarian option for those students who have made this request. If your student will not eat the meals provided, please send a packed meal for them.  It will be a long day and no one should go hungry.
Brunch – breakfast sandwiches
Dinner – Qdoba

Want to help serve lunch or dinner?
We need volunteers to help serve lunch and dinner on Saturday.  If you are interested in helping with brunch at Lafayette (serving at 10:00am) or dinner at Ryle (tentatively serving at 6:00pm), please contact Jane DeRossett ( fullpantry@hotmail.com or 859-396-5387).

Band Store Update

The band store will be open on Friday during the football game.  There is a limited quantity of short sleeve and long sleeve “Vox Populi” show shirts available, so don’t delay in purchasing your shirt!  Please pick up the pre-order show shirts.

The “Vox Populi” lapel pins and patches and “Invitational” patches have arrived and they will be available at the band store on Friday night for $7.00 each.

Family Payments Agreements

Family payments for 2016-2017 are $1,100 and should have been completed by August 15 but were extended to August 31 due to transitional issues with the Charms database.  However, if the payment was not completed by August 31, an additional late payment of $150 for the “deferred payment schedule” was added per the payment agreement.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Smith at chuck.smith@fayette.kyschools.us or 859-396-3311 for a confidential payment arrangement.

Please continue to be financially responsible and complete your family payments in a timely manner.  This is the most expensive time of the marching season and we need to provide payments for meals, show design, transportation, and musical instruction.  Our instructors would appreciate receiving payment for their hard work and dedication to our students.  Thank you.

Charms Database

The Lafayette Band uses Charms, a web-based organizational software system to track student contact information, financial statements, email communication, and more.

To log into Charms, go to www.charmsoffice.com.  Click “Enter” on the top menu and click “Parents/Students/Members” on the dropdown list.  Login using the school code “lhsband” and enter your student ID/password.  If you need your student ID, please contact Liz Booth at lafayettebandaccounts@gmail.com. The student ID is assigned by Charms and is a combination of letters and numbers.

If your student has an outstanding balance, you will receive a monthly financial statement.  The monthly payments will be billed individually in the Fixed Payment ledger.  Amounts received that are less than the billed fixed payment amount will be temporarily stored in the Miscellaneous ledger.  When the amount in the Miscellaneous ledger is sufficient to pay a monthly payment, we can transfer the amount to the appropriate fixed payment.

Band payments may be paid by cash, check, credit card or money order.  Checks and money orders should be made payable to “LBA” (please note the student’s name) and mail to:

Lafayette Band Association
PO Box 910396
Lexington, KY 40591-0396

“Remind” System to Communicate Information

The Lafayette Band uses the “Remind” system to communicate important information to students and families.  The students have been encouraged to join the appropriate “remind” groups to receive updates, schedule changes, and reminders from the band directors.  Families are welcome to join.

Text the following codes to 859-519-8446:
