Competition Update |
|
Dear Lafayette Family, Due to a shortage of LBA funds, the Lafayette Band will not participate in the October Bands of America (BOA) competition in St. Louis. The cost of travel to St. Louis ($73,000) is not financially possible at this time. This decision was not easy and is a true disappointment for our students with the lost opportunity to perform “Vive la France!” on this national-level platform. The Lafayette Band is the “Pride of the Bluegrass” with a great heritage of performance excellence. We are committed to maintaining a high quality music and marching program with opportunities to compete at the national level. However, this requires a financial commitment of the Lafayette Band Association provided by family payments and fundraising efforts. Therefore, as we move forward, please complete family payment agreements, participate in the upcoming Fruit and Wreath fundraiser and volunteer 2-3 hours each month selling pull tabs at Bingo. We are working hard to build a strong financial base so that future trips and competitions can be scheduled with confidence. There will be a contest for the Lafayette Band on October 17. Location to be determined. Mr. Smith and Mr. Bishop are working to identify a regional competition for October 17 to replace the BOA trip. The good news is that we will still be able to watch our students perform a beautiful “Vive la France!” show. Watch the weekly e-News for more information about the contest on October 17. The students are having a wonderful season and they are excited about the show! They are working on 3rd movement now and it is exciting to watch the show evolve. There will be many opportunities to support and cheer for them during performances – we hope to see you at football games and marching contests. Thank you and Go Lafayette! Ben and Brenda Boggs |
